Plate etched by Ilsted in 1904 for an edition in B/W. In 1913 Ilsted reworked the plate for a small edition in colours, signed but not numbered. The colours are very subdued, a single yellow for the lamp next to the sitting firl and the large frame on the wall and a brownish/black for the body of the travel-piano on the etching, piano that had belonged to Mozart
When Mozart died, his widow Constanze married a danish official Mr Nissen and moved to Copenhagen. After some years the couple decided to move to Germany and they sold their furniture incl Mozarts travel piano.
In 1899 the piano hit the market in Copenhagen again and Ilsted, who were an enthusiastic collector of antiquities bought it and kept it till his death.
